There are all sorts of different events, concerts, workshops and sessions. You can just turn up and wander about. However, we think you will get more out of the festival if you plan your day(s).
If you are looking for information about where everything is, go to the Places page.
And the ultimate guide to the festival is the printed programme which you can order online in advance or pick up at various locations when you arrive.
There are sets from crews throughout the three days of the festival that tend to last about 45 minutes and are at various venues: the main pubs, the Ha'Penny Pier, the LV18 and the Sailing Club. These are entirely free and you can find out who is singing where by looking at the centre spreads of the festival programme.
There are number of ticketed performances to choose from. These are a way to hear crews in a quieter setting, to find out a bit more about the songs from the artists themselves and see some polished performances.
Come on board the Sailing Barge Victor. You depart from the Ha'Penny Pier, there are a number of sailings throughout the day, you need to book in advance and different sailings have different shanty crews on board.
Tickets go on sale closer to the festival.
Don't miss the range of workshops that run over the duration of the festival including singing with jig dolls, playing 'the bones', ropework and woodwork, and learn-a-shanty family sessions. These are all bookable and you will find them in the online shop. Some are free, some are not!
There will be re-enactments at certain times at the Redoubt Fort and along the beach front. The precise times of these will be advertised closer to the festival. Watch out too for street theatre.
To read about all the performers and participants at the festival, visit the artists pages.
Relaxed and open - in various venues across the weekend, there are sessions which you can join. Bring a song, try out something new, listen to musicians playing together, drink beer and be merry!
Some of these are listed in the programme, some you will find by chance.
You can take part in the festival too! Buskers are very much encouraged.
There are advertised busker stops, highlighted in the programme. Expect a really friendly vibe with willing listeners.
